World of Wanderlust’s Brooke Saward, founder of the world’s most visited travel blog, headlines Destination Southern Tasmania’s (DST) inaugural industry Summit. The peak regional tourism organisation for southern Tasmania is holding the one day tourism industry event on 4 August, 2015 at Blundstone Arena.
Nearly 150 industry representatives will come together at the event to learn from expert presenters speaking on branding, social media, distribution, innovation, events and visitor servicing.
“The focus of the event is to assist tourism operators to maximise the opportunities presented from tourism and help them to enhance the sustainability of their businesses,” said Melinda Anderson, DST’s CEO.
“Tourism is one of Tasmania’s key economic pillars, it is important we continue to improve the visitor experience in our region, through industry development and capacity building to ensure that southern Tasmania continues to thrive,” said Ms Anderson.
“We are delighted that Brooke Saward is able to be part of our inaugural Summit. She has built a travel focussed digital empire in just two years, with over 370,000 social media fans and over half a million unique visitors to her blog each month. Brooke will share her tips for effective storytelling in influencing travel decisions. This is vitally important to our industry with social media an increasingly preferred marketing tool for our tourism operators, large and small.”
The Summit’s diverse program also features North Melbourne Football Club CEO, Carl Dilena, who will focus on how the tourism industry can leverage Tasmania’s major events and representatives from City of Melbourne’s Business and Tourism team will share their exciting research into the visitor information journey. This research has guided decisions around Melbourne’s investment in visitor information centres, city way finding and collateral development.
Ms Anderson said continuous improvement and innovation is a key focus for the Summit. “Some of the state’s newest and most exciting tourism developments will showcase their innovative approaches to business, including William Smiths and Sons, Montacute Boutique Bunkhouse, Hatherley Birrell Collection and Pumphouse Point.”
The Summit plays an important role in bringing our industry together said Ms Anderson. It celebrates achievements and focuses on how to do things better to ensure southern Tasmania’s tourism industry can respond to visitor demand and help to meet the Government’s visitation objective of 1.5 million visitors by 2020.
