I am very excited to have commenced my new role as CEO of Destination Southern Tasmania last week. I have met many of you through my previous role with the City of Hobart, and look forward to meeting more members over the coming weeks. For those who don’t know much about me, my involvement in tourism goes back to the start of my working life. Most of my tourism experience has been in the private sector, including owning and building my own tourism business which, at its height, had seven scuba diving centres across five countries. This has given me the skills to understand small business, which is the backbone of tourism in southern Tasmania, and the issues that can affect them.
Six years at the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre has given me invaluable insight into the Tasmanian tourism industry and has helped me build relationships with operators and stakeholders across the state. We are privileged to operate in one of the most beautiful areas of the world and southern Tasmania has a diverse and eclectic mix of incredible tourism products, which the DST team is very proud to support and promote. I am supported by a fantastic, professional team in Anne, Kate and Natalie and cannot wait to assist our members to thrive and grow and enhance our region’s visitor economy.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Chair and board of DST for their faith in appointing me as the incoming CEO, and also to thank Melinda Anderson for her outstanding work over the past four years which has laid strong foundations for us to continue to strengthen our organisation and our tourism industry.
