Paint the Town Red 2015 a Great Success

Paint the Town Red 2015 has been declared a great success by Destination Southern Tasmania’s CEO, Melinda Anderson.

The campaign which sees the tourism and hospitality industry light up their businesses red to support the Dark MoFo Festival is now a recognised element alongside the Festival.
“The support we’ve had from the tourism and hospitality industry and the wider business community, as well as the public, has been fantastic,” said Melinda Anderson.

“From Hobart Airport to Hastings Caves and Thermal Pools, we’ve had businesses from all over southern Tasmania light up in celebration of the Dark Mofo Festival. And the public responded, with amazing imagery shared through photos on social media channels.”

Over 500 ‘#Paint the Town Red2015’ images were shared across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, featuring a wide variety of Tasmanian businesses and landmarks, with the Tasman Bridge and Dark MoFo Pulse Column being some of the most popular features.

“Our statistics show that almost 300,000 people were reached over a million times with these social media contributions,” said Melinda Anderson.

All public images were part of a competition, where eight winning photos were chosen representing the diversity of the Paint the Town Red program and the vibrancy of the Dark MoFo Festival. The winning images included shots of the Tasman Bridge, The Apple Shed in the Huon Valley, Constitution Dock and Narryna. “By participating in ‘Paint the Town Red’ organisations and businesses spread the spirit of the Dark Mofo celebration across southern Tasmania in ways that we simply can’t” said Leigh Carmichael, Creative Director of the Dark Mofo Festival.

“The impact this has enhancing the audience experience is incredibly important, and a major contributor to the overall success of the Festival.”

Melinda Anderson said that Destination Southern Tasmania is already looking at options for next year’s program to ensure Paint the Town Red reflects and supports the evolution of Dark Mofo.
