Southern Tasmania’s landscape becomes a living gallery as the celebrated Art Farm Birchs Bay Annual Sculpture Prize returns for its 2025 season.
Just a scenic drive south of Hobart, visitors are invited to immerse themselves in a uniquely Tasmanian encounter – winding through bushland, orchards, and pastures along the acclaimed 2km Sculpture Trail, where over 35 artworks create a fusion of creativity and the natural world.
2025 Prize Winners
This year’s major Sculpture Prize was awarded to Alice RG for “Play Warriors”—a captivating collection that celebrates the wild freedom of childhood and the wisdom found in play, crafted in cement and paint on rod. Alice’s work invites viewers to reconnect with adventure, hope, and the vivid spirit of youth.

Kingborough Council Acquisition Prize
The Kingborough Council Acquisition Prize was awarded to Mahalia White-McColl for “Still Standing”, a powerful ceramic and recycled steel piece with locally sourced ash glaze. The work confronts pressing environmental questions, merging local heritage and ecological commentary.
Additional highlights of the 2025 exhibition include:
“Handmaidens of the Apocalypse” by Dan Tucker: A thought-provoking statement on nuclear militarism and its impact.
“Safe Harbour” by Evie Silver: Evoking the sanctuary sought by humpback whales, this work reflects on ecological recovery and hope.
“Farmosphere” by Bruce Wall: Crafted from historic farm tools, celebrating Tasmania’s rural story.
“Bush sprite” by Hazel Jennings: A small, powerful goddess of the bush tethered to the earth—a symbol of resilience.
Visitors can also vote in the People’s Choice Award (open until 10 February 2026), with entries eligible for prizes including tickets to iconic Pennicott Wilderness Journeys cruises.

Since its inception in 2006, Art Farm Birchs Bay has fostered community, creativity, and conservation. Works acquired through the annual prize become part of the permanent collection, enriching the trail for future visitors and solidifying the farm’s role as a vibrant contributor to southern Tasmania’s arts and tourism landscape.
