With over 40 years’ experience producing premium Pacific Oysters, Tassie’s premium Tasmanian Oyster Company will be shucking, serving and talking all things Oysters at Hobart’s Belvedere restaurant on Saturday, 27 July.
Aptly called “The Oyster Affair”, oyster lovers can join farmers from Tasmanian Oyster Company for an afternoon of tastings (including the rare Angasi Oyster) and shucking, all whilst savouring matching sparkling wines from Josef Chromy, Freycinet Vineyard and South Australia’s Skillogalee Estate.
Not only will eventgoers learn how to shuck like an expert, but also deep dive into Tassie oysters and sample different varieties including Smithton Tarkine from the wild, nutrient rich waters that lash the Northwest; and the rare indigenous Angasi Oyster – native to the Apple Isle with Australia’s last remaining native Angasi oyster reef located in Tasmania.
Three sparkling wines will be perfectly matched to the half dozen oysters that will be served naturally, fresh topped or baked in a way that complements the oyster variety.
Oyster lovers are invited to stick around after the demonstration and tasting for Belvedere’s popular Oyster Happy Hour, where Golden Oysters are available to purchase for just $2 between 4pm – 6pm. As well as $8 house beers, wines and spirits and $14 cocktails.
Address: Belvedere, ground level of Vibe Hobart, 36 Argyle St, Hobart
Date: 27 July, from 3pm.
Price: $79 per person includes tasting half a dozen oysters and three sparkling wines to match. Plus live oyster shucking demonstration and the chance to have a go yourself.
