- Antarctica comes to Hobart’s popular Twilight Market
One of Hobart’s favourite Friday night events will be transformed into an Antarctic experience when the Brooke Street Pier Hobart Twilight Market joins forces with the Australian Antarctic Festival on Friday 21 August.
For one night only, the popular waterfront market will embrace the spirit of Antarctica, with more than 40 stalls offering Antarctic-inspired food and drink, artisan products, books, family activities and polar-themed experiences.
Visitors may even encounter a wandering penguin or hear a choir performing songs reminiscent of those that entertained and inspired early Antarctic expeditioners during long winters in the far south.
Lara Colrain, CEO of the Mawson’s Huts Foundation, which delivers the festival, said the partnership was a wonderful way to showcase Hobart’s unique connection with the frozen continent in a fun and accessible setting.
“The festival celebrates Hobart’s proud Antarctic heritage and its continuing role as one of the world’s great gateways to Antarctica,” Ms Colrain said.
“Partnering with the Hobart Twilight Market allows us to bring that story to even more people. Whether you’re coming for the food, entertainment or simply a great night out on the waterfront, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.”
The Twilight Market will run from 4.30 pm to 9 pm on Friday 21 August.
The 2026 Australian Antarctic Festival will be held from 20–23 August across Hobart’s waterfront precinct and selected partner venues.
