Cadbury Chocolate Experience Set to Open in 2027

Southern Tasmania is preparing to welcome one of the world’s most exciting new tourism attractions, the $150 million Cadbury Chocolate Experience at Claremont, due to open in late 2027.

Developed by Simon Currant and Associates in partnership with Cadbury’s parent company, Mondelez International, the project will transform the iconic Cadbury Factory site on Hobart’s northern waterfront into a global benchmark attraction celebrating chocolate, Tasmanian produce, and a century of local heritage.

A world-class chocolate destination

The attraction promises an immersive journey for visitors of all ages. Highlights will include the multi-sensory Chocolate Central, indulgent dining at the Chocolate Lounge, a Premium Chocolate Studio offering workshops and “build your own bar” sessions, and a curated emporium of exclusive chocolate gifts.

The centrepiece will be the Chocolate Immersion Tour, a self-guided adventure through themed zones such as the magical Cacao Forest, the Dairy showcasing Tasmanian farmers, and the Taste Kitchen where local flavours meet chocolate creations.

Boost for tourism and the economy

Forecast to attract more than 550,000 visitors annually, the Chocolate Experience is expected to inject $120 million per year into Tasmania’s visitor economy, generating a total economic benefit of up to $228 million. More than 300 construction jobs and 200 ongoing roles will also be created.

With its scale and ambition, the project is being compared to the transformational “MONA effect,” positioning Southern Tasmania as a must-visit destination for both domestic and international travellers.

Enhanced access and experiences

The development will include major infrastructure improvements, with new ferries transporting visitors from Hobart to a dedicated Claremont terminal, as well as upgraded walkways, cycleways, and landscaped foreshore parklands.

Strengthening Tasmania’s visitor appeal

The Cadbury Chocolate Experience directly supports Tasmania’s 2030 Visitor Economy Strategy, offering a sustainable, world-class attraction that will encourage longer stays and higher visitor spending. It will also complement established drawcards such as MONA and kunanyi/Mount Wellington, creating a stronger and more diverse tourism offering in Southern Tasmania.

As construction begins in 2026, anticipation will grow for the opening of this landmark attraction, which promises not just to celebrate chocolate but to deliver lasting benefits for Tasmania’s communities, economy, and global reputation as a boutique tourism destination.
