Callington Mill Distillery, in the historic heart of Oatlands, Southern Tasmania, has secured its place among the world’s elite whisky producers, winning top honors at two of the spirit industry’s most prestigious international competitions in 2025
The standout achievement came at the internationally renowned London Spirits Competition:
Callington Mill’s Pedro Ximenez Single Malt Whisky was named Single Malt Whisky of the Year, scoring an extraordinary 97 points. The distillery’s Invicta, Fusion, and El Sol also brought home gold medals, marking an unprecedented performance for an Australian distiller on the global stage.
Adding to the accolades, Callington Mill took home four Double Gold medals at the celebrated San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC), with the Pedro Ximenez Single Malt reaching a near-perfect 98 points and being named a finalist for “Best In Class – Australian Single Malt Whisky.” These double victories solidify Tasmania’s reputation as a whisky powerhouse and highlight Callington Mill’s rapid ascent as a new standard-bearer for Australian spirits excellence.
Distillery founder John Ibrahim reflected on the milestone, saying:
“At Callington Mill, we set out to fuse Tasmanian ingenuity with timeless tradition. These awards are a testament to our passionate team, remarkable local ingredients, and our vision to create something truly world-class right here in the Southern Midlands. We’re proud to help showcase Tasmania—Australia’s whisky capital—to the world.”
The awarded Pedro Ximenez Single Malt, distinguished by its dark mahogany colour and complex notes of raisin, fig, dark chocolate and honey, wowed international judges with its depth, structure, and lingering finish. Reviewers have called it “an elevation of Australian whisky craftsmanship” and confirmed the distillery’s place at the forefront of the category.
Callington Mill’s record-breaking haul at the London Spirits Competition and the SFWSC also shines a spotlight on the broader achievements of Australian distillers in 2025, with Tasmanian producers dominating global awards and reinforcing Southern Tasmania’s destination appeal for spirits enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike.
With nearly 40% of Australia’s highest-scoring single malts at the world’s most important spirits competitions now attributed to Callington Mill, Oatlands is fast becoming a must-visit destination on Tasmania’s thriving “whisky trail.”
