Connection to Country – A Groundbreaking First Nations Art Exhibition Comes to the Huon Valley

For the first time in the Huon Valley, the voices of First Nations artists will rise together in a landmark exhibition that brings culture, story, and deep-rooted connection to the heart of southern Tasmania. The exhibition will be held in the Atrium Gallery at Geeveston Town Hall on Lyluequonny country.

2 June – 28 June 2025

Connection to Country is a powerful and immersive exhibition showcasing the works of both emerging and established Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists. Through diverse mediums and powerful storytelling, the exhibition explores the profound spiritual, cultural, and ancestral bonds that Indigenous peoples maintain with land, water, and sky.

At its core, Connection to Country is a celebration of lived experience, resilience, and custodianship. Each artwork offers a window into the enduring relationship between people and place, drawing visitors into a rich tapestry of identity, memory, and spirit.

“Art is not just paint on canvas, it’s a map of memory, spirit, connection and story. Country is not a place we own, but a living presence we belong to,” says Amanda Pearn, Exhibition Coordinator.

This unprecedented event invites visitors not only to view but to witness Country not as a backdrop, but as a sentient, guiding force.

Scott Pearce, Operations Manager at Geeveston Town Hall, shares, “We are incredibly proud to be able to present this exhibition, bringing extraordinary First Nations artists into the spotlight of our regional community.”

The exhibition will be held in the Atrium Gallery at Geeveston Town Hall from 2 June to 28 June 2025. The hall opens 10AM to 4PM Monday to Saturday. Entry is free.
