Hobart, September 28, 2023 – In a vibrant gathering that marked a pivotal moment for Destination Southern Tasmania (DST), the organization’s Annual General Meeting took place at the Aura Bar in Hobart on Thursday, September 28, 2023. A total of 86 members and guests attended the occasion.
Prior to the assembly, members exercised their right to participate in online voting, adhering to the organization’s constitution. The results brought forth new leadership, with the appointment of Directors who are set to guide DST into an exciting future.
The newly elected Directors include Dr. Anne Hardy from the University of Tasmania, Andrew Hennessey of Pennicott Wilderness Journeys, and Scott Christie Johnson from the Old Woolstore. Their appointment signifies a fresh perspective and dedicated leadership for the organization.
Destination Southern Tasmania would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the retiring Directors, Kelly Spaulding of the Tasman Council, and Diane Rae from Grandvewe, for their invaluable contributions throughout their tenure. Their service has left a lasting impact on DST’s mission.
Furthermore, DST wishes to shine a spotlight on the retiring Chair, Stuart Lennox, who has gracefully stepped down from his position. Elected in 2017, Stuart exhibited exceptional leadership skills, expertly steering the organization through the challenges posed by the Covid-19 crisis. Stuart was elected by the members for two consecutive two-year terms, showcasing the trust and confidence the members have placed in his capable hands.
With the changing of the guard, the inaugural meeting of the DST board convened on Friday, September 29 at the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens. At this pivotal gathering, Dr. Anne Hardy was appointed to the role of Chair, ushering in a new era of leadership.
Continuing their commitment to DST’s success, Dan Aitken was re-elected as Deputy Chair. Additionally, Melita Hickling of Tahune Adventures and Cally Lyons of Rathmore have been reappointed for regional representation.
DST also extended a warm welcome to three Council nominations, adding depth to its leadership. These nominations include Mayor Brendan Blomeley of Clarence, Mayor Michelle Dracoulis of Derwent Valley, and Mayor Sally Doyle from Huon Valley Council. Their insights and regional expertise will be invaluable assets to DST’s ongoing endeavours.
The Directorship lineup is complemented by the continued service of Alice van der Woude from Onboard Expeditions, Jennifer Bett from Port Arthur Historic Site, and Daniel Aitken from Mona. These elected Directors, each with one year remaining in their term, will continue to contribute their wealth of knowledge and experience to DST.
Destination Southern Tasmania is now poised to embark on a fresh journey under the guidance of these dedicated Directors and with the support of its passionate members. Together, they will continue to promote and develop Southern Tasmania as a premier destination, brimming with natural beauty and cultural richness.
