Hobart Current: Here invites visitors to experience contemporary art across Hobart

Now in its third biennial iteration, Hobart Current is an innovative partnership between TMAG and the City of Hobart, commissioning new work by contemporary artists working across diverse practices and media.

This year’s theme, ‘Here’, asks audiences to consider place, presence and the moment we’re living in, “what it means to be ‘here’ in this time and place,” according to Co-Creative Directors Denise Robinson and Travis Tiddy.

All ten participating artists are based in lutruwita/Tasmania: Marion Abraham, Jodi Haines, Andy Hutson, Jade Irvine, Jenni Large, Sara Morawetz, Jonny Scholes, Mary Scott, Dylan Sheridan, and Peter Waller.

Seven works are presented within TMAG, with three outdoor artworks at Salamanca Lawns, Franklin Square, and Mawson Place, inviting locals and visitors to encounter art as they move through the city.

A series of public programs complements the exhibition. Some events carry specific patron advice (including adult themes), so visitors are encouraged to check details before attending.
