Step aboard living history this Off Season with a unique sailing experience on the SV Rhona H.
Operated by Heritage Sailing Tasmania, the Rhona H offers a warm and welcoming way to embrace the cooler months on the River Derwent. This beautifully restored 1942 vessel – the oldest working sailing vessel in Hobart – is crewed entirely by volunteers passionate about Tasmania’s maritime heritage.
Sail into the Off Season
Departing most weekends from the end of Elizabeth Street Pier, the Off Season Afternoon Tea Sail invites guests to slow down, sip hot refreshments, and enjoy the thrill of traditional sailing. With sails set and the Derwent as your backdrop, you can take the helm under supervision, chat with the crew, or simply relax and soak up the experience.
Each two-hour journey includes hot drinks, juice, and locally sourced vegetarian refreshments – with vegan and gluten-free options available on request. Children are welcome too, and they’ll love ringing the ship’s bell every half hour.
With Hobart’s ever-changing weather, every sail is a little different – guided by the conditions on the day to make the most of what the Derwent offers. Guests are kept up to date with any schedule changes by phone and email.
Whether you’re a local looking to rediscover your harbour or a visitor seeking something truly special, the SV Rhona H delivers an authentic and memorable Off Season experience. Private charters are also available by enquiry.
