Southern Open Vineyards Weekend returns in 2026

Southern Tasmania’s much-loved Southern Open Vineyards Weekend returns from 27 February to 1 March 2026, marking its 29th year with the largest line-up in the event’s history.

Over three days, a record 53 wine producers will open their doors across the region, offering locals and interstate visitors rare access to cellar doors, vineyards and winemakers that are not usually open to the public.

Run by WineSouth, the event has become one of Australia’s leading wine touring weekends, celebrating the depth and diversity of Southern Tasmania’s cool-climate wine regions. Around 30 participating producers do not operate year-round cellar doors, making this a unique opportunity to taste wines and meet the people behind them, right where they’re made.

The 2026 program spans five southern sub-regions — the Coal River Valley, Huon Valley, Derwent Valley, D’Entrecasteaux Channel and the South East — encouraging visitors to slow down, explore at their own pace, and build a weekend around wine, food and local landscapes. From established, world-recognised labels to emerging boutique vineyards, the weekend offers something for serious wine enthusiasts as well as groups and families looking for a relaxed day out.

Several producers will use the weekend to launch new spaces and wines, including Mapleton Vineyard and Stargazer, both unveiling new tasting facilities in the Coal River Valley. A number of producers are also joining the event for the first time, with new cellar doors and first wine releases adding to the sense of discovery that defines the weekend.

To support visitor planning, the event website has been refreshed with improved tools, including downloadable sub-region maps, accommodation and transport information, and the ability to tailor itineraries based on personal interests. The timing also aligns neatly with other southern events, including the Garlic Festival on the Tasman Peninsula, making it ideal for a long weekend in the region.

Supported by the Tasmanian Government through Events Tasmania, the Southern Open Vineyards Weekend continues to play an important role in driving visitation, dispersal and direct connection between visitors and Southern Tasmania’s wine community.

More information, including participating producers and planning tools, is available via the Southern Open Vineyards website.
