The kunanyi Mountain Run has been selected as a key participant in the inaugural Golden Trail National Series, joining esteemed events in Victoria and Queensland.
The recognition stems from the tremendous success of the kunanyi Mountain Run, positioning it as a premier fixture within the new series and putting Tasmania – and Hobart especially – on the world adventure tourism map.
The top male and female runners emerging at the apex of this Series will secure coveted invitations to the Golden Trail World Series in Europe, slated for October 2024.
The Golden National Trail Series, sponsored by global brand Salomon, is held in Australia for the first time following its huge international success.
This compelling series aims to attract the finest trail runners across Australia to converge upon nipaluna/Hobart, drawn by the magnetic appeal of the legendary kMR loop and the challenging Mountain Run 25km. Moreover, it anticipates drawing in other trail running enthusiasts and their families, fostering a vibrant gathering.
Organizers are gearing up for an impressive turnout, expecting approximately 1000 runners and an overall attendance of 3000 participants for the 2024 edition.
The kMR event showcases an array of six diverse events: the Vertical Kilometre, Foothills 9km, Mountain Run 25km, the Ultra 66km – a test that can be undertaken solo or as part of a team relay – and a dedicated kids’ run.
Beyond the trail run, this event transcends into a three-day celebration of mountain culture and community festivity. The event’s calendar is packed with exciting activities, notably spotlighting opportunities to engage with the rich heritage of palawa (Tasmanian Aboriginal) culture.
The event occurs between 22 and 24 March 2024, nipaluna / Hobart, lutruwita / Tasmania.
