- The Tasman to Deliver New World-Class Event Space, LUMINA
The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel in Hobart, has confirmed development is underway on LUMINA, a new architecturally designed event destination set to open mid-2026
Sitting above Hobart’s historic waterfront, LUMINA is designed as a column-free, clear-span venue offering flexibility for everything from conferences and gala dinners to weddings, cocktail functions and corporate events. Once complete, the space will accommodate 220 guests for standing events or up to 200 for banquet dining.
General Manager Carolyn Smith said LUMINA represents an exciting step forward for both the hotel and Tasmania’s broader visitor economy. “This striking new event space reflects our commitment to delivering hospitality excellence in Tasmania and creating opportunities to welcome more global travellers to our island.”
Business Events Tasmania CEO Marnie Craig welcomed the announcement, noting the venue will strengthen Southern Tasmania’s position as a premium incentive and business events destination. Tasmania continues to benefit from strong investment in this sector, including the State Government’s recent $1.2 million commitment to support Business Events Tasmania as part of the 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.
Locally Designed and Built
Designed by fjcstudio—the architects behind The Tasman—LUMINA draws on Tasmanian materials and craftsmanship. The mass-engineered timber structure is built entirely from Tasmanian Plantation Oak, with bespoke joinery in Tasmanian Oak. Construction, managed by Light Box and delivered by SHAPE Tasmania, is expected to support around 187 Tasmanian jobs and create 31 new roles, including opportunities for apprentices.
