- Winter in the Huon Valley campaign launched
Destination Southern Tasmania has officially launched its new Winter in the Huon Valley campaign, encouraging Tasmanians to rediscover one of the state’s most rewarding winter destinations during the school holidays.
Launched at Willie Smith’s Apple Shed in Grove, the campaign shines a spotlight on the Huon Valley’s family-friendly experiences, cosy accommodation, outstanding local food and wine, and the natural beauty that comes alive during the cooler months.
The campaign is supported by a dedicated consumer guide on the Hobart and Beyond website, showcasing places to stay, attractions, local businesses and suggested itineraries designed to inspire overnight visits.
Destination Southern Tasmania CEO Alex Heroys said the campaign encourages families to look close to home for their next winter escape.
“The Huon Valley is full of experiences – forest adventures, local food, warm fires, easy walks, caves, beaches and welcoming country towns,” Mr Heroys said.
“Winter is the perfect time for Tasmanians to rediscover the Huon Valley and support regional tourism businesses during the school holidays.”
“The Valley is one of those places close enough for an easy family escape, but far enough away to feel like a real break.”
The campaign highlights many of the region’s best-loved experiences, including Tahune Adventures Tasmania, where visitors can walk high above the forest canopy on the iconic AirWalk, explore the swinging bridges or stay overnight in the recently opened lodge accommodation.
“Tahune Adventures is a great anchor for a family trip to the Huon Valley,” Mr Heroys said.
“Just 80 minutes from Hobart, Tahune offers one of Tasmania’s most accessible nature-based experiences. A single site entry ticket gives visitors access to the AirWalk, Huon Pine Walk, Swinging Bridges Walk, café and visitor centre.”
“The Tahune AirWalk is an iconic experience, with a 600-metre elevated walkway above the forest floor and a spectacular cantilever section sitting 50 metres above the Huon River.”
Beyond Tahune, the campaign encourages visitors to continue exploring the region, from Hastings Caves and Thermal Springs and the historic riverside towns of Franklin and Geeveston, to the galleries and cafés of Cygnet and the coastal communities of Dover, Southport and Cockle Creek.
The campaign also celebrates the Huon Valley’s food and drink offering, with orchards, farm gates, cider houses, wineries, artisan bakeries and local producers providing plenty of reasons to slow down and spend a little longer exploring.
“There are orchards, farm stalls, artisan bakeries, local wines, cider houses and long lunches giving families plenty of reasons to slow down and stay longer,” Mr Heroys said.
“School holidays are an important period for regional tourism businesses, and we hope this campaign inspires more Tasmanians to support local operators by taking a short break close to home. Don’t just make it a day trip – make a weekend of it.”
The Winter in the Huon Valley campaign forms part of Destination Southern Tasmania’s ongoing work to encourage regional dispersal, support local tourism operators and inspire Tasmanians to explore more of their own backyard during the Off Season.
Visitors can explore the full guide, discover accommodation, attractions and suggested experiences by visiting the Hobart and Beyond website.
