Port Arthur Historic Site on the Tasman Peninsula has announced a new off-season experience, Shades of Port Arthur.
For anyone who loves the Port Arthur Ghost tour  – this is an entirely different tour! Join the Port Arthur guides as the light wanes, and they share stories of unexplained phenomena experienced throughout our history.
Hear true tale reports of ethereal sounds of children laughing,  rocking chairs that move by themselves, cool breezes in stagnant rooms and mysterious faces captured in the sandstone. Keep your eyes and ears open as you enjoy exclusive access to the Penitentiary, Guard Tower, Commandant’s House and the old Hospital.

Shades of Port Arthur is an exceptional off-season experience that departs the Port Arthur Visitor Centre at 3:30 pm every Saturday until 31 August. Tours last approximately 90 minutes.
Shades of Port Arthur operates during daylight hours and is considered family-friendly. However, if your child is very young, very active or susceptible to nightmares, it may not be suitable.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
This is a guided walking tour that includes a 2km walk around the historic site. Due to the steep incline of some of the locations, this tour is not suitable for people with restricted mobility and is not wheelchair accessible.
Tours operate in most weather conditions, so make sure you’re prepared for the conditions – please note that umbrellas cannot be taken on the tour.
Please arrive 15–30 minutes before your scheduled tour, to allow time to check in and move to your tour departure point.
1830 Restaurant & Bar is open Saturday evenings for bar snacks from 3:00pm, and dinner reservations from 5:00pm.
